Bob Ziomek, an Axia Principal, is a 30-year healthcare industry professional. With Axia, he assists Axia clients in the assessment of a variety of catastrophic care solutions, including transplant networks, oncology management, air ambulance, renal dialysis, subrogation and specialty negotiations products.
Prior to joining Axia Strategies, Bob spent 14 years as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Co-Founder of United Resource Networks, the transplant network division of United Health Group (UHG). Bob’s focus was on designing transplant benefit management solutions on behalf of reinsurance/stop-loss carriers, indemnity insurers, health plans and large corporations. Before joining UHG, Bob held senior sales executive positions with Tokos Medical, CIGNA Health Plans and Johnson & Johnson.
Tom Schori, an Axia Principal, has been involved in the healthcare industry for over 30 years. Tom co-founded Axia Strategies in 1998 and continues to maintain responsibility for managing Axia’s largest strategic relationships. His years of industry experience extend across the traditional health insurance, managed care, association/employer, medical management and pharmacy benefit management areas. Over these years of experience, Tom has had overall responsibility across direct sales, account management, business development and marketing areas.
Prior to starting Axia, Tom served in various senior level sales and account management leadership capacities for many large health care companies including UHG/Optum, Express Scripts (ESI) and specialty divisions within Cigna and Aetna.
Mike Harrington, an Axia Principal, has over 30 years of managed health care experience. Mike works with clients across the payor spectrum in evaluating, selecting, and implementing solutions in the decision support and medical management areas, including population health management and specialty care networks such as DME/Home Health, genetic testing and high-end imaging.
Prior to joining Axia Strategies, Mike spent 13 years in senior leadership positions in products, marketing, sales and account management at the Optum division of United Health Group (UHG). Mike’s focus was on building strategic relationships and providing solutions to payors in the health, wellness and medical management arenas. Before joining UHG, Mike was a senior sales executive at CIGNA Behavioral Health for several years. Mike began his career in the banking business working at US Bancorp in the National Accounts commercial lending area.
Laura Birkel is the Vice President & Managing Director of Pharmacy Management Services at Axia Strategies. Laura has over 12 years of pharmacy benefit management consulting experience. In overseeing all of Axia’s Pharmacy Management Services and client relationships, Laura’s expertise includes vendor selection and negotiation, plan design and program strategy along with performance monitoring and auditing services.
Prior to joining Axia Strategies, Laura consulted with Towers Watson and Mercer’s Health Care and Pharmacy practices in the Minneapolis offices. Laura’s focus and experience has included both overall health care strategy as well as pharmacy management consulting. Her background includes RFP development and negotiations, reporting, vendor oversight and management and cost management strategy development.
